Bearded dragons are probably the most common reptiles in captive care worldwide. In particular the Central Australian Bearded Dragon (Pogona vitticeps) is kept and bred in large numbers and many colour morphs. This species counts as domesticated. Originating the Herpetal Bearded Dragon Award we'd like to elect the most beautiful bearded dragon in the future and arouse interest in these attractive species and their specific needs. Not coincidentially we have chosen a partner for this award whose products have great importance for the well-being of reptilies and amphibians. Supplementary food, vitamins and minerals of Herpetal, developed by specialists and recommended by leading breeders, prevent deficiency diseases and combined with the correct climatic conditions result in animals who feel comfortable, show their most attractive colours, and produce healthy offspring.

On top of this the Herpetal Bearded Dragon Award adapts a feature other sectors of pet hobbyists like fish, dogs or others have thriven on for a long time. Awards have become a tradition and guarantee a positive perception in the public and the media. Herpers should support this new "normality" of the hobby – it can only support our passion in the long run.

Professional breeders as well as private keepers of single animals can qualify for the first Herpetal Bearded Dragon Award. You will find conditions of participation and prizes here. Display of the animals will take place during the Breeders’ Expo Europe on 13. September 2009 in standardized displays made by Lanzo Herp Cages in the entry area of the A2 Forums in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. A prominent jury will judge the bearded dragons. In addition prizes will be awarded by the visitors of the show.
