The dates for the Breeders' Expo in Duesseldorf Philipshalle for the next three years:

1. May and 31. October 2010
1. May and 20. November 2011
6. May and 18. November 2012

---------
18. February 2010: Important change: After discussions with several vendors we plan to reduce the opening hours of the Breeder' Expo from six to fice. We believe this time span is wide enough to clear all business. On the other hand this step will reduce the potential stress for animals and allows almost every vendor to reach home within the same day.
---------
18. January 2010: The new stand plans are online since Christmas, and the high number of newsletter enlistings, excited reactions of vendors, and inspired discussions in forums prove that this move to the state capital of North-Rhine Westfalia is seen very positive by the herpers community.

7. November 2009: We change localities! From 2010 the Breeders' Expo Europe will be hosted by the Philipshalle in Duesseldorf, dates are 1. May and 31. October 2010. We're looking forward to give the BEE a fresh start and establish an international highlight for the herpers' society in the global city of Duesseldorf. For more information on the new location please refer to the event location page.

18. October 2009: When you shape high objectives youclaim high goals you have to compete with them, not only aim for them with high energy. Unfortunately we didn't match some of our objectives with the last show on 13. September for some reasons. Among others I saw several violations of the expo rules ... and didn't see others. In short: Some vendors didn't care too much for the rules at all. External observers underlined these drawbacks and made me think about expo rules and other aspects. We will work on these and change expo rules before it will be possible to book a stand for the next show.
Connected with this I'd like to urge an appeal to all visitors and vendors: If you see a nuisance during the show please bring it to our attention. To buy an animal out of pity or a later complaint in a forum doesn't help at all. This way I could never track down the responsible persons and find out why things go wrong. Worst case, any black sheep will be back at the show next time ... this is not what we all want.

Consequences:
• The BEE show will not grow any further before I have solved these problems.
• Chief control about the stands will be given to an external animal protection specialist.
• Vendors that got to our attention negatively will be reminded of the expo rules again and will be under close control. If there is any further doubt about their reliability they will be expelled from further shows..

28. September 2009: The fourth BEE is over. You will find some photos and other information clicking here. The fifth Breeders' Expo will take place on 1. May 2010 ...

4. September 2009: We have two new highlights accompanying the Herpetal Bearded Dragon Award. First of all we have worked out a eight-page brochure on Bearded Dragons together with renown experts. It will be available for the first time at the BEE, currently only in German, but if demand is high enough we might start a translation to English. Second, our jury members Mandy Decker, Karsten Grießhammer, famous author of the German "bible" on Bearded Dragons published by Herpeton, and scientist Dennis Oonincx, president of the eldest Dutch herpers society, will not only check and judge the displayed animals in the contest but also offer a Bearded Dragon Talk and their expertise to the audience. I think it's a wonderful service for you visitors. For more information click here ...

30. Juli 2009: Sometimes the efforts of a competitor trying to kill the BEE with every means are quite funny, sometimes annoying. An old story I re-heard several times during the last weeks: Several vendors from abroad reported they had contact on the phone with the operator of this other show who menaced them they would be subject of a complaint for animal welfare reasons in case they dare to display animals at the BEE on 13. September after displaying animals the day before on this other show. On the one hand: There is no law or regulation as fundament for such a complaint. On the other: Not only I am wondering what this organizer will do with those of his close friends who displayed animals at his show on Saturday and in Houten at the Terraria on Sunday in December 2008. I guess these vendors like to go to Houten again in December this year? And it's getting virtually bizarre that one of these vendors publicly complained that "others" book two shows in a row on the classifieds page owned by the organizer mentioned above. It seems some are more equal than others ...
From the veterinary point of view there are several aspects that are much more deciding for the humane organization of a reptile show. At least if this issue is of any relevance and not just a special regulation to harm the BEE:

philo5-frei-300
• hours-long, apparently intentional waiting time with animals during freezing temperatures or heat at the entry gates
• a room climate which is to be described as sauna euphemistically (at least 42 degrees Celsius were measured and stated by several vendors)
• the offer of feeder rodents in close neighbourhood to their smell-sensitive predators
• permanent stress for the animals thanks to tables that are knocked around because they are build much too closely (which is, by the way, also problematic for fire police regulations) and thanks to the shaking of boxes

Of course there are "black sheep" among the vendors ... on every show! It's certainly no incident that there are queues in front of the animal lounge of the Frankfurt Airport in the week before the self-proclaimed World's Largest Reptile Fair takes place, while at the same time the phone wires of importers and wholesalers are glowing. An animal which is thoroughly packed and transported, at best from European breeders, will certainly be comfortable even when displayed two days in a row. At least more comfortable than an animal which already had to suffer a five-day trip from overseas before it gets to the table. A truly responsible breeder is the best guarantee for the animal welfare anyway. She or he can and will judge about the animal's needs after spending years of efforts.

13. Juli 2009: Liking a web site or not is a question of personal taste, of course. Some like it as dark as possible, others are happy only when lots of Flash animations fill the screen. From today we have integrated at least a little bit of colour in the page header, but in general we'll stick to our principle to focus on content. You should find any information you possibly need around visiting the BEE. On top you'll find for example more than 60 qualified care sheets for rare or common species to download as PDF. If you think our web site is missing some important content just drop us a line via e-mail.

27. May 2009: We are proud to announce another highlight for the forthcoming reptile show on 13. September. In collaboration with the company Keweloh Tierernährung we like to invite you to join the first Herpetal Bearded Dragon Award and will select the most impressive and beautiful bearded dragon, probably the most popular reptile in the world. Visitors and a qualified jury will both award prices. For more information, the details of the tender, prices for the winners, etc. click here.

17. April 2009: After thorough talks with our vendors we decided to comply with their wish and schedule the fourth reptile show for Sunday, 13. September 2009. Maybe this date won't make everyone happy, but it's according to customers' request so we'll make it happen. We are looking forward to the next BEE, the friendly place to meet other herpers! If you don't want to miss out on any announcements around the BEE put your e-mail address down in our newsletter list and we'll keep you posted.

16. März 2009: The third BEE is over, and I guess my opinion is shared by the majority of visitors, vendors and authorities: We have experienced a very successful event that ran absolutely smoothly in a very pleasant atmosphere. As I had anticipated increasing the number of visitors by around 100 per cent and the integration of a venomous room didn't change the character of the show at all: no organizational problems, no excessive waiting queues, no sticky air or other trouble. Thanks to the service staff, the speakers, and to all our guests that have contributed.

Personally I was again fascinated by some rare animals of species which I didn't see before. Unfortunately time is rather limited during the show so I had to leave it to others to take photographs. However, here are
some photos.

11. Februar 2009: During the last days we've been asked several times how to get a lift to the BEE and how to make arrangements. On the one hand all forums offer a platform to post such a wish, offer your free seats or search for a lift. On the other hand you can make use of free classifieds, for example www.terraristic-classifieds.com, www.terraristik.com, www.eurofauna.com, or www.reptileclassifieds.co.uk and make appointments there. Good luck and have a safe trip to Rheda!

4. February 2009: The number of media files at www.herpFocus.com our mutual project with www.Terraristic-Classifieds.com is increasing constantly. For more information please click here.

16. January 2009: We hope you all made it well into year 2009! All the best for your private and professional life, and of cause for your breeding projects!

We are happy having completed the
program of lectures for the reptile show on 15. March 2009. The two speakers will talk about comprehensive topics and we hope the lectures will be fascinating again. Dr. Silvia Blahak, who discussed common diseases of lizards in August will offer the same service for the numerous snake keepers in March. Bernhard Queisser, a very good photographer and video artist known to many herpers due to his software TerraPro, will talk about requirements and possibilities of digital photographing of animals. You will find more details clicking the links.
---------
9. December 2008: Since the first BEE in April 2008 we've been asked several times to provide access to the information Jason Wagner shared in his lecture. The abronia specialist from the USA was so kind as to provide the data. If you are interested in the "gems of the cloud forest" you can download his PowerPoint lecture (roughly 50 mb) using this link. Unfortunately you need the adequate software to view it. Jason is also offering a DVD on Abronia in the wild at his web site www.projectabronia.com, plus it has a 45 minute section on keeping Abronia in captivity with detailed footage of his enclosures and animals. If you want to know more about Abronia or want to share your knowledge this is the place to go ...
-----------
10. October 2008: There's an important change for the third reptile show on 15. March 2009: For the first time we will provide an official room for the presentation of venomous snakes including a sophisticated concept (more details) to protect the animals and humans alike. The concept was developed in collaboration with several breeders of venomous snakes, the controlling authorities and a leading manufacturer of cages.
